The team

Matèria Verda networks with multidisciplinary teams, integrated by famous national and international professionals, specialised in environment project research and development, architecture and town planning, biodiversity and direct management of green spaces.

In addition, specialised companies of the sector collaborate with Matèria Verda. All of this allows designing for every occasion the most suitable team’s profile in accordance with the commissioned projects.

Antoni Falcón Vernis
Chairman of Matèria Verda. He is the director and coordinator of the team of collaborators.

He is a Master in Gardening and a technical specialist for the Escola of Jardineria i Paisatge Nicolau M. Rubió i Tudurí, he has a degree at the School of Tècniques Hortícoles d’Orleans, and at the Escola of Paisatge of Versalles, and he has also a degree in Edaphology and Phytogenetic at the Universitat de Barcelona. He has also a Master's degree in Función Gerencial en las Administraciones Locales y en Alta Direcció de Empresa at the Escola Superior d’Administració i Direcció d’Empreses (ESADE).

In the field of the teaching, he was director of the Escola Viver Castell de Sant Foix, teacher of the Master's degree of Architecture and Landscape at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and teacher of the course “garden and historical parks rehabilitation” at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Madrid. He is author of numerous conferences and lectures related to the urban green and the sustainability of the green spaces. His latest international conference has been given in Strasbourg, October 2009, in the 4th European meeting of landscape gardeners Assises du Paysage.

Antoni Falcón is author of numerous articles in specialty journals of this area. He is currently a fix collaborator of the magazines PAISEA and PAISAJISMO. He was also director of the magazine Barcelona Verda (1992-2001). He is Co-Author of several publications about vegetation and especially about the parks and gardens of Barcelona. Recently he has published the book “Green Spaces for a sustainable city” edited by Gustavo Gili.

Antoni Falcón has a long professional career in the area of public green spaces as director-manager of the Parcs i Jardins de Barcelona department during 16 years and also director of the Centre Gestor del Parc de Montjuïc de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona. In the private area, he is the chairman of the company Matèria Verda, S.L., consultancy for issues related with the management and the project of gardens and green spaces. He is also director of the nurseries Santa & Cole Forestal (2004-2008) and Aurea Herbs & Trees.

Among the works developed throughout years, he is the author of the projects of restoration of Can Castelló and Jardins de la Tamarita de Barcelona and of numerous private gardens (Urdangarin in Barcelona, Mercader in Cadaqués…) He is also adviser in the studies of architecture and landscape Miralles-Tagliabue for the projects of the park of Diagonal Mar and the Universidad de Vigo, as well as the study Lluis Millet for the projects Centre Multicultural de Manresa and the sports field of Barberà del Vallès.

Antoni Falcón has been member of the jury for different projects of parks’ contests such as, the Nou jardí Botànic de Barcelona, the Parc Nou de Terrassa or the Cims de Montjuïc.
